The name of this piercing comes from a legend surrounding Prince Albert of Saxe, who was married to Queen Victoria in 1840. In those times, aristocrats wore tight-fitting trousers, and to disguise the shape of his penis as much as possible, the Prince is said to have had this piercing done with the idea of attaching a string to it to keep it close to his thigh.
